iPhone App and Membership
The iPhone app stores a learner identifier, timezone, onboarding answers, learning preferences, saved words, daily lesson completion and review history on our server. It keeps a local copy of learning content and pending progress on your device so you can continue offline. The app and its widgets share cached lesson content and membership expiry on your iPhone.
Apple handles App Store billing. We receive and verify subscription identifiers, products, renewal or expiry dates and revocation information to determine access. We do not receive your payment card number. We do not use this information for advertising or cross-app tracking.
If you link an existing web account, we associate your learner identifier with that account and use previously known vocabulary to personalize future lessons. Recovery codes and device credentials are stored as hashes on the server. Keep your recovery code private.
Daily reminders are scheduled locally only when you enable them. Korean pronunciation uses your device voice unless a recording is available. Recordings you play may be cached on your device.
Deleting learning data in the iPhone app removes the mobile identity, device credentials, recovery code, mobile history and server membership association. It does not delete a separately linked web account or cancel Apple billing. Manage your subscription in your App Store account; use the existing web account controls for web data.
What We Collect
When you create an account on Hop Into Hangul, we collect and store:
- Your email address
- A one-way hash of your password (password digest)
- Your timezone preference
- Your username (if you provide one)
- Your profile avatar (if you upload one)
- Your study progress for Korean vocabulary flashcards
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and maintain your account
- Track your learning progress across study sessions
- Send you notifications at appropriate times based on your timezone
- Send you a welcome email when you sign up
- Allow you to reset your password if needed
Data Security
We store a one-way bcrypt password hash, rather than your original password.
Account Invitations
If you invite others to join your account, we store their email addresses and invitation details until they accept or the invitation expires.
Third-Party Access
If you authorize third-party applications to access your Hop Into Hangul account through our OAuth integration, we store access tokens that allow those applications to interact with your account on your behalf. You can revoke these tokens at any time from your account settings.
Push Notifications
If you enable web push notifications, we store the subscription information necessary to send you notifications. You can disable notifications at any time through your browser settings.
Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your personal information and study progress.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page.
